# Conversation History

Every conversation you have in Aide is saved automatically and accessible from the sidebar. You can return to any past session, continue where you left off, or clean up conversations you no longer need.

## Accessing Past Conversations

1.  Look at the **left sidebar** — all your conversations are listed there.
2.  Each entry shows the conversation title (auto-generated from the first message) and its timestamp.
3.  Click any conversation to load it in the main area.
4.  The full message history is restored exactly as you left it.

## Continuing a Conversation

When you open a past conversation you can continue it directly — just type your next message in the input bar. The AI retains the full context of what was discussed previously.

## Starting a Fresh Chat

To start a completely new conversation:

1.  Click **New Chat** at the top of the sidebar.
2.  A blank chat opens in the main area.
3.  Your previous conversations remain saved in the sidebar.

### Deleting a Single Conversation

1.  Hover over the conversation in the sidebar.
2.  Click the **delete icon** that appears.
3.  Confirm the deletion.

The conversation is permanently removed.

### Clearing All History

1.  Look for the **Clear History** option in the sidebar.
2.  Confirm the action.

> **Caution**
>
> Clearing all history permanently deletes every conversation. This cannot be undone. Only do this if you’re sure you don’t need any of your past sessions.

<a id="conversation-titles"></a>

## Conversation Titles

Titles are generated automatically from the first message of each conversation. They give you a quick summary of what the session was about so you can identify it at a glance in the sidebar.

> **Tip**
>
> If you have many conversations, use the content of the first message as a way to organize them — starting a chat with “Science revision —” or “Essay help —” makes it easier to find specific sessions later.
