# Drawing & Annotation

Canvas includes a freehand drawing layer that sits on top of the Quranic text. You can draw, highlight, and annotate directly on any page — and your drawings are saved automatically and restored every time you return to that page.

## Accessing the Drawing Tools

1. Open any Surah or Page in the reading area.
2. Look for the **drawing tools** in the bottom toolbar.
3. Click the **brush icon** to activate drawing mode.

## Drawing Tools

| Tool | Function |
| --- | --- |
| **Brush** | Freehand drawing — draw lines, circles, underlines, or any mark |
| **Eraser** | Remove parts of your drawing without clearing everything |
| **Colour picker** | Choose from a palette of colours for your brush |
| **Brush size** | Choose one of three thicknesses (fine, medium, thick) |
| **Undo** | Step back through your last drawing actions |
| **Redo** | Reapply an action you undid |
| **Clear all** | Remove all drawings from the current page |

## Drawing on a Page

1. Activate drawing mode from the toolbar.
2. Select your colour and brush size.
3. Draw directly on the Quranic text — use it to:

- **Underline** key words or phrases
- **Circle** letters you want to practice
- **Highlight** verses you’re memorizing
- **Mark** Waqf (stopping) points
- **Add arrows** to connect related words

4. Your drawing is saved automatically as you work.

## Saving & Persistence

Drawings are saved to your account automatically — no manual save required. When you return to the same page later, your annotations are restored exactly as you left them.

Drawings are stored per page, per user. Your annotations are private and only visible to you.

> **Tip**
>
> Use different colours to distinguish between types of annotations — for example: red for Tajweed errors, green for memorized verses, blue for Waqf marks.

<a id="erasing-drawings"></a>

## Erasing Drawings

- Use the **eraser tool** to selectively remove parts of your drawing
- Use **Undo** to reverse your most recent strokes
- Use **Clear all** to remove every annotation from the current page

> **Caution**
>
> **Clear all** permanently removes all drawings on that page and cannot be undone. Use the eraser or undo for more precise removal.

## Drawing Across Pages

Each Mushaf page has its own independent drawing layer. Switch between pages normally — your drawings on each page are saved and loaded separately.

<a id="use-cases"></a>

## Use Cases

| Use case | How to do it |
| --- | --- |
| Mark memorized verses | Underline in green |
| Flag Tajweed errors | Circle problem words in red |
| Note Waqf positions | Draw a small mark at stopping points |
| Highlight for revision | Draw a highlight stroke over key lines |
| Teacher annotations | Mark areas to focus on for the student’s next session |
