# Navigating Console

Console has a clean layout built around your selected class. Here’s a map of every area so you know where everything is.

## Top Navigation

The top navigation bar is always visible and contains:

| Item | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| **Ilmiya logo** | Returns you to the Console home (dashboard) |
| **Organization name** | Shows the active organization — click to switch |
| **Class selector** | Dropdown to switch between your classes |
| **Notifications bell** | Real-time notifications for new messages, discussions, and support cases |
| **Profile menu** | Access your profile settings and sign out |

## Class Selector

The class selector in the header is the most important control in Console. All data — analytics, discussions, messages — is scoped to whichever class is selected here.

-   Click the selector to see all your classes
-   Select a class to load its data
-   Click the organization name at the top of the class picker (Admins only) to see org-wide data

## Main Navigation

The left sidebar or top nav links give you access to all Console sections:

| Section | What it is |
| --- | --- |
| **Dashboard** | Real-time analytics for the selected class |
| **Inbox** | Discussions, student messages, and support requests |
| **Logs** | Full audit trail of organization activity |
| **Spaces** | Class/space selector and management |

## Breadcrumb Navigation

As you navigate deeper — for example into a specific discussion channel or message thread — breadcrumbs appear at the top showing your current path. Click the **×** at the right of the breadcrumb bar to go back.

**Example:**

## Notifications

The notification bell in the top navigation shows real-time alerts for:

-   New student messages
-   New discussion posts in channels you manage
-   New support ticket activity
-   Other organization events

Click the bell to open the notifications panel and see all recent alerts. Unread notifications are highlighted.

<a id="real-time-updates"></a>

## Real-Time Updates

Console uses live WebSocket connections to stream data updates without requiring a page refresh. When student activity changes — new engagement data, new messages — the dashboard and inbox update automatically.

> **Tip**
>
> If data looks stale, use the **Refresh** button on the dashboard to manually trigger a recalculation of organization metrics.
