# Students List

The **Students List** is the landing view of the Canvas tab. It shows every student in your organization with live status and the surah they’re currently reading.

## Opening the List

Click **Canvas** in the Studio navigation. The student list loads immediately — student status updates in real time without a refresh.

## Status Indicators

Each student has a live status pulled from the Iqra WebSocket:

| Indicator | Meaning |
| --- | --- |
| 🟢 **Online** (green) | Student is connected but not in a reading session |
| 🔵 **Active** (blue) | Student is in a reading session |
| 🟠 **Inactive** (orange) | Student is connected but idle |
| 🔴 **Offline** (red) | Student is offline |

Each student’s avatar also carries a small corner dot — green when connected, red when offline.

## Search

Use the **search input** at the top to find a student by username. The search is debounced — results appear automatically after you stop typing.

## Filter by Status

Use the status dropdown to filter the list:

| Filter | Shows |
| --- | --- |
| **All** | Every student in the organization |
| **Online** | Only students who are connected but not in a reading session |
| **Active** | Only students currently in a reading session |
| **Inactive** | Only students who are connected but idle |
| **Offline** | Only students currently offline |

## Grid vs List View

Toggle between two layouts using the view button:

| View | Best for |
| --- | --- |
| **List** | Detailed scan — see name, username, current surah, and status side by side |
| **Grid** | Quick visual overview — student avatars and what they’re reading |

### List View Columns

| Column | Description |
| --- | --- |
| **Name** | Student’s display name with avatar |
| **Username** | Student’s email handle (before the @) |
| **Surah Name** | The surah they’re currently reading, plus reading mode (Read / Recite) |
| **Status** | Color-coded status dot with its label |

Click the column headers to sort by name or username (ascending or descending).

### Grid View

Each student appears as a card with:

-   Their profile photo with a green (online) or red (offline) corner dot
-   Their name
-   The surah they’re currently reading (or “Not reading”)

## Pagination

The list is split into pages. Use the bar at the bottom to move between pages and to set **Rows per page** (10, 25, 50, 100 or 250).

## Opening a Student

Click a student’s name or photo in either view to open their detail page. This loads the three-tab view: **Quran**, **Stats**, and **Setting**.

> **Note**
>
> Canvas only shows students that belong to your organization (matched by tenant). You won’t see students from other organizations even if your Ilmiya account has access to multiple.

> **Tip**
>
> If a student is shown as offline but you know they just logged in, the WebSocket may take a few seconds to register the connection. Refreshing the page is not needed — the status updates automatically.
