Trust Philosophy
Education depends on trust. These principles guide how we build Ilmiya and care for the information entrusted to us.
Education asks people to place confidence in one another. A learner needs room to ask a question without embarrassment. Families depend on the judgment of the people teaching their children. Organizations need to know that the tools behind their work will respect those relationships.
Ilmiya provides curriculum and the infrastructure through which organizations deliver education, often entirely under their own name. Our work sits behind experiences that matter to people. That position carries responsibility, even when our name never appears in the classroom.
This philosophy explains the principles that guide our work. The Global Privacy Policy sets out how we handle personal information and the rights people can exercise. Our agreements describe the commitments that apply to the services an organization purchases.
Learning begins with people
A teacher brings knowledge of a learner that a system cannot acquire simply by collecting more information. A family understands circumstances that may never appear in an education record. Our purpose is to support the people doing that work and give them useful tools with which to exercise their judgment.
We want the curriculum and software we provide to create room for thoughtful teaching. The organization determines how it delivers education, including which materials suit its learners. Ilmiya remains responsible for the services and obligations we agree to provide.
Make the role of AI clear
People should understand when they are interacting with software. A friendly voice or a helpful answer should leave a child able to distinguish a generated response from a conversation with a person. Our design principle is to support that understanding in language suited to the learner.
AI should help someone explore a question while leaving space for human guidance. It can produce confident mistakes. Decisions with consequences for a learner require meaningful human judgment, and generated material needs review before instructional use.
We believe a learning experience should have an educational purpose. Time spent with a tool, on its own, tells us little about its value. Our aim is to help people use technology with understanding and confidence as they continue learning beyond it. The Responsible AI Statement explains the applicable safeguards and limits.
Treat information as entrusted to us
Education records concern real lives. A learner’s work may reveal where they need help; a private message may contain something a family has shared with care. We use Student Data for the authorized educational service. We do not sell it or use it for advertising.
Our role follows the processing arrangement. When we process an organization’s records on its behalf, its lawful documented instructions govern that work. The Data Protection Addendum sets the limits and safeguards, including the obligations that apply to our providers.
We do not currently train Ilmiya models on Customer Data, and third-party providers may not use it to train their models. Any future customer-specific training would require a separate, lawful written opt-in before eligible information could be used.
Give choices meaning
People need enough information to understand a choice before they make it. Our notices explain the information handled by the selected services. Organizations can use our direct notice and consent resources when communicating with families under their own brand.
AI and voice features are optional. Learners can decline them while retaining access to the core learning service. Organizations administer the permissions their offering requires, within their lawful authority. These choices sit alongside the privacy rights explained in the Global Privacy Policy.
Make responsibility visible
White labeling lets an organization create a learning environment that belongs to its community. It also makes clear information about the services behind that environment important. Our notices identify Ilmiya’s role, while the organization’s own notice explains its educational purposes and decisions.
Today, Customer Data is hosted, stored and processed in the United States. Our provider list explains which companies support the service. The detailed policies address access, retention and deletion, so people can examine the practices behind these principles.
Keep a path to people
Students should turn to their organization or family for help with their learning experience, account access or a concern about an activity. Those people know the setting in which the service is being used and can help find the appropriate support.
Organizations can contact their account manager, sales contact or legal inquiries for further support. Anyone may also contact legal@ilmiya.com about Ilmiya’s processing, a privacy request or a complaint. When a request concerns records an organization controls, we help route it appropriately while preserving the rights available under applicable law.
Our Legal Questions page answers common questions and points to the documents with more detail.
