Fonts & Display

Canvas gives you full control over how the Quranic text is displayed. You can choose from multiple authentic Arabic scripts, adjust the font size, select a translation language, and toggle Tajweed colouring.

Display settings are available from:

  • The Settings tab on the Canvas home screen
  • The bottom toolbar while reading a Surah

Canvas supports three authentic Quranic scripts:

ScriptDescription
Uthmanic HafsThe most widely used standard script worldwide — based on the Hafs narration
MadaniThe script used in the Madinah Mushaf — clear and widely recognized
IndopakThe script commonly used in South Asia (Pakistan, India, Bangladesh)

Select the script that matches the Mushaf you’re most familiar with for the most comfortable reading experience.

Adjust the size of the Arabic text to suit your screen and eyesight. Canvas offers 7 size levels — from compact to large display.

Use the font size control in Settings or the toolbar to increase or decrease the size.

When using Translate mode, Canvas displays a translation beneath each verse. You can select your preferred translation language from the settings.

Available translations vary depending on your organization’s configuration. Common options include English, Urdu, and other major languages.

Tajweed is the set of rules governing the correct pronunciation of the Quran. Canvas visually highlights Tajweed rules directly on the Arabic text using a colour-coding system.

ColourTajweed Rule
GreenGhunnah (nasalization)
BlueIkhfa / Idgham (merging sounds)
RedQalqalah (echoing sound)
OrangeMadd (prolonged vowel)
Other coloursAdditional Tajweed rules

Tajweed colouring can be toggled on or off from the display settings. It is on by default in Read and Recite modes.

In Translate mode, each Arabic word is shown with its transliteration and translation directly beneath it. This word-by-word layout helps you build a connection between the Arabic text and its meaning.

Tap any individual word to see:

  • Its standalone meaning
  • Its grammatical role in the verse
  • How it appears in other verses

Canvas supports light and dark themes. Switch between them from the Settings tab to reduce eye strain during extended reading sessions.
