Recitation Feedback
After recording a verse, Canvas displays your results as colour-coded highlights on the Quranic text. Each colour represents a different type of error so you can see exactly what needs improvement and why.
Reading the Feedback
Section titled “Reading the Feedback”The feedback screen shows the verse text with each word highlighted based on your performance:
| Highlight | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Green | Correct — word was recited accurately |
| Red | Error — word had one or more mistakes |
| Orange / Yellow | Partial — word was mostly correct with minor issues |
Click on any highlighted word to see the specific error details for that word.
Error Types
Section titled “Error Types”Canvas identifies four categories of recitation errors:
Tajweed Errors
Section titled “Tajweed Errors”Violations of the rules governing correct pronunciation of Arabic letters and sounds.
Examples:
- Not applying Ghunnah (nasalization) where required
- Incorrect Madd (elongation) length
- Missing Qalqalah (echoing) on applicable letters
- Incorrect Idgham (merging) of sounds
What to do: Review the specific Tajweed rule that applies to the word and practice it in isolation before reciting the full verse again.
Verbal Errors
Section titled “Verbal Errors”The word was mispronounced — the sounds produced did not match the correct Arabic pronunciation.
Examples:
- Substituting one letter sound for another
- Incorrect vowel sounds (harakat)
- Dropping or adding sounds that shouldn’t be there
What to do: Listen to a reciter pronouncing the word correctly using the audio player, then try again.
Waqf Errors
Section titled “Waqf Errors”Incorrect stopping (or not stopping) at the right places in the verse.
Examples:
- Stopping in the middle of a phrase where stopping changes the meaning
- Not pausing at a mandatory Waqf sign
- Pausing where continuation is required
What to do: Study the Waqf signs marked on the verse text and practice pausing at the correct points.
Memorization Errors
Section titled “Memorization Errors”The word was skipped, substituted with a different word, or said out of sequence — indicating a gap in memorization.
Examples:
- Saying a word from a different verse or Surah
- Skipping a word entirely
- Repeating a word that shouldn’t be repeated
What to do: Return to Memorize mode and reinforce the affected section before attempting the recitation again.
Recitation Score
Section titled “Recitation Score”At the top of the feedback screen you’ll see an overall score for the verse:
| Score Range | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 90% – 100% | Excellent — very few or no errors |
| 70% – 89% | Good — minor errors to address |
| 50% – 69% | Developing — noticeable errors, needs more practice |
| Below 50% | Needs significant practice before moving on |
Judge Mode
Section titled “Judge Mode”After completing recitation sessions, switch to Judge mode to see your saved error annotations overlaid directly on the Quranic text. This gives you a visual map of your weakest words across the full Surah without needing to replay the audio.
→ See Reading Modes for details on Judge mode.
