Reading Modes
Canvas offers six reading modes, each designed for a different purpose. Switch between them using the mode switcher in the bottom toolbar while reading any Surah.
The Six Modes
Section titled “The Six Modes”| Mode | Purpose |

| Read | Clean Arabic text for focused reading |
| Translate | Arabic with word-by-word translation and transliteration |
| Tafsir | Arabic with scholarly commentary and interpretation |
| Recite | Record and evaluate your recitation with AI feedback |
| Judge | Review your previous recitation errors on the text |
| Memorize | Progressive word-reveal for memorization practice |
Read Mode
Section titled “Read Mode”The default mode. Displays the Arabic text clearly with Tajweed colouring applied. No translation or transliteration is shown — designed for focused, uninterrupted reading.
Best for: Students who can read Arabic and want a clean reading experience.
Translate Mode
Section titled “Translate Mode”Displays each verse with:
- Arabic text
- Transliteration — romanized pronunciation guide beneath each word
- Translation — the meaning in your selected language beneath each verse
Tap any word to see its individual translation and grammatical role.
Best for: Learners who want to understand the meaning as they read.
Tafsir Mode
Section titled “Tafsir Mode”Displays the Arabic text alongside Tafsir — scholarly interpretation and commentary for each verse or passage. Tafsir provides context, background, and explanation of the verse’s meaning.
Best for: Students doing deeper study of the Quran’s meaning and context.
Recite Mode
Section titled “Recite Mode”Recite mode activates the AI recitation evaluation system. You record your recitation of each verse and receive instant feedback on:
- Tajweed errors — pronunciation rule violations
- Verbal errors — mispronounced words
- Waqf errors — incorrect stopping points
- Memorization errors — skipped or substituted words

Best for: Students practising their recitation who want AI-powered feedback.
Judge Mode
Section titled “Judge Mode”Judge mode overlays your saved recitation errors directly on the Quranic text. Words you previously mispronounced or made errors on are colour-coded so you can see exactly where your weaknesses are.
Best for: Reviewing past recitation performance and targeting specific words for improvement.
Memorize Mode
Section titled “Memorize Mode”Memorize mode progressively covers words in the verse, challenging you to recall them from memory. Words are revealed one at a time as you progress.

Best for: Students actively working to memorize Quranic verses.
Switching Modes
Section titled “Switching Modes”- Open any Surah in the reading area.
- Look for the mode switcher in the bottom toolbar.
- Click the mode you want to switch to.
- The reading area updates immediately to reflect the new mode.
