Setting Tab
The Setting tab is the third tab in a student’s Canvas detail view. It lets you override Studio’s organization defaults for that specific student — font, color, reciter, translation, tafsir, difficulty, and more.
Opening the Setting Tab
Section titled “Opening the Setting Tab”- From the Students List, click a student.
- In the detail view, click the Setting tab.
Defaults & Override
Section titled “Defaults & Override”At the top of the Setting tab:
| Control | Description |
|---|---|
| Defaults | Reset all settings on this page back to the organization defaults |
| Override student settings | Toggle whether the teacher’s overrides on this page take precedence over the student’s own preferences in Campus |
When Override student settings is on, the values you set here lock the student’s view — they cannot change them from their side. When off, your values are the defaults but the student can adjust them.
Choose the Quranic script font used when the student reads:
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Uthmani | Traditional Uthmani script — used in most printed mushafs |
| Indopak | Indo-Pak script — common in South Asia |
Font Size
Section titled “Font Size”Pick the default Arabic text size:
| Option | Pixel size |
|---|---|
| Small | 18px |
| Medium | 22px |
| Large | 26px |
| Extra Large | 30px |
Set the font color used for the Quranic text. Click the color swatch to open the color picker and choose a custom hex value. The selected color applies to all Arabic text the student sees.
Tooltip
Section titled “Tooltip”Toggle whether tooltips appear when the student taps or hovers on Quranic words. Tooltips can include word meanings, transliterations, or grammar notes depending on your organization’s content setup.
Segment Tracing
Section titled “Segment Tracing”Enable or disable Segment Tracing — a guided visual marker that highlights the segment the student is currently reading. Useful for younger students or those new to Quranic reading.
Difficulty
Section titled “Difficulty”Set the difficulty level for the student’s recitation and assessment activities:
| Level | Behaviour |
|---|---|
| Beginner | Simpler questions, more hints, longer time limits, more lenient pronunciation grading |
| Intermediate | Standard difficulty |
| Advanced | Stricter grading, fewer hints, complex tajweed expectations |
Click the info icon next to Difficulty to see a detailed breakdown of what each level changes.
Reciter
Section titled “Reciter”Choose the default reciter for audio playback in this student’s view. Studio includes a library of well-known reciters — select from the dropdown to set the default for this student.
The student will hear this reciter when:
- Audio plays automatically during a recite session
- They tap the play button on any ayah
- They request a reference recitation in pronunciation practice
Translation
Section titled “Translation”Configure the translation shown alongside the Arabic text:
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Translation Language | The base language (English, Urdu, Arabic, Turkish, Indonesian, French, Spanish, German, etc.) |
| Translation Edition | The specific translation within that language (e.g. for English: Shakir, Sarwar, Yusuf Ali, Pickthall, Maududi) |
Selecting a language refreshes the translation dropdown to show editions available in that language.
Tafsir
Section titled “Tafsir”Choose a tafsir (Quranic commentary) shown when the student requests deeper context on a verse. Available tafsirs include:
| Tafsir | Language |
|---|---|
| Ibn Kathir | English, Russian, Turkish |
| Maarif-ul-Quran | English |
| Tazkirul Quran | English |
| As-Siraj Fi Bayan Gharib Al-Quran | Arabic |
| Tafseer Al-Qurtubi | Arabic |
| Tafseer Al-Baghawi | Arabic |
| Mokhtasar | Chinese, Turkish, French |
| Tafsir As-Saadi | Russian |
The selected tafsir is loaded whenever the student opens commentary for an ayah.
